'Barfi' movie review and box office report












The Hindi movie "Barfi!" that stars Ranbir Kapoor opposite former Miss World Priyanka Chopra and Telugu actress Ileana D'Cruz hit the screens in India and across the world on September 14, 2012.
The movie was released on around 1750 screens in India and 350 screens overseas. Reportedly, the movie made around Rs 9 crores ( $ 1.7 million) on the first day.
Rakesh Sippy of Raksha Entertainment Pvt Ltd said that the movie has opened pretty well in multiplexes and in other cities.
"In fact, the film had around 90 to 100 percent occupancy for the morning shows. It is doing exceptionally well. The film will pick up by word of mouth," he added.
Priyanka Chopra plays the role of an autistic girl ‘Jhilmil’ while Ranbir Kapoor plays a deaf and mute boy. Though he is named 'Murphy', he is called 'Barfi'.
Directed by Anurag Basu of "Kites" and "Gangster" fame, "Barfi!" has been certified 'U' from Censor Board.

UTV Motion Pictures has produced the movie. The dubbing for the movie was completed in just four days. The music of the film is composed by Pritam and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The length of the movie is 2 hrs 31 mins.
The movie is set in 1970s and is the story of "Barfi" who falls in love with Shruthi (Ileana). Shruthi marries a ‘normal’ person due to societal norms.
After many years she reunites with Barfi, who is on the run from police with his lover ‘Jhilmil’.
Zee News wrote, "Ranbir Kapoor delivers an award-winning performance. After lapping up awards last season with his role in "Rockstar", Ranbir easily slips into the role of Barfi and leaves the audience speechless.
"Priyanka Chopra does her autistic act with finesse without going overboard and Bollywood newbie Illeana D’Cruz fares well as a girl battling societal norms.
