Lakme Fashion Week: What happened on Day 2 and 3

 True in keeping fashion as a form of self-expression, designers at Day 2 and 3 of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 took to doodles, the videogame pac-man and medieval pop on the runway!

 Who knew doodling could become a fashion statement! Aartivijay Gupta's collection called 'I Love Ma Doodle Book' of shift dresses, trench coats and more in plain white cloth with black doodles has us hooked!

 Designer Nikhil Thampi put a brave front on the ramp with his collection titled 'Surviviors'. Constructed in crinkled silk and rich velvet, his outfits bore a rustic facade.

Sidharta Aryan's 'Wanderlust' focussed on prints inspired from Indian art and architecture. Look closely and you'll be surprised to see Rajasthani art, temple jewellery of the south, blue prints from the Chalukya dynasty, and even the streets of Lucknow juxtaposed on the fabric!

Move over paisleys, enter pac-man. Yogesh Chaudhary's collection 'Miss Pac-in District' was a riot with little pac-man graphics block printed on dresses, kurtas and sarees. What fun!

Payal Khandwala's 'Sadhu and the Samurai' mixed east with the far-east. Think flowing robes in burnt orange, crimson, and bronze of the samurais teamed with top-of-the-head buns hair-dos of sadhus. Can we wear it? Not really.

Playing with origami, spider meshes, braided cloth, patch work, and lattice weave, Roma Narsinghani's collection 'Dream Catcher' was all about details and trimmings.

Siddharth Mallya walked the ramp for designer Komal Sood's luxurious demi couture collection 'The Twilight Seduction'.



















We did not like the red bikini top-purple saree-black leggings combo right in the beginning of the show, and most of Komal's other outfits were impractical.

 Designer Pernia Qureshi presented 'An Evening in Paris' for the timeless sophisticate. Vintage silhouettes in a regal palette of the collection easily made it stand out on day 2 of the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.

 Absolutely love Sanam Chopra's accessory collection at the Talent Box. Just as the name suggests, 'Medieval Pop' was all of cuffs, necklaces and bags in colourful leather, embellished with metallic stones and Swarovski crystals.

On the third day at the Lakme Fashion Week, designer Gaurang Shah presented a kaleidoscope of gorgeous Kanjeevaram sarees on the runway.

 Indian film, television and theatre actress Kirron Kher dazzled in a lush brocade saree from Gaurav's collection titled 'Ardhagini'.

 Shruti Sancheti's collection 'Thar' was clearly marked for the Indian Textile Day. The show was a tour of the region's trademarks like Shibori, Kutch stitch, herringbone, and buttonhole stitches on handloom cloth, and the drum-beat background only added to the ambience.

Calling her collection, ‘Notes from the Raj', designer Payal Kapoor's pieces paid a tribute the city of Benaras. Show-stopper Mini Mathur concluded her show in a rich magenta zardozi lehenga choli.

 Mayank Anand and Shraddha Nigam presented their new prét label 'Kapurthala' which is inspired by the beauty of India at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.

Their collection titled 'Technicolor', was a tribute to the colours of Punjab.

True to her roots, designer Swati Vijaivargie Jain who hails from Jaipur, showcased an ethnic collection of traditional Rajashtani work at the Talent Box.

 Funky prints of Indian cultural importance like the peacock, lotus, Ganesha, and parrots added a glam‐quirky edge to Swati’s collection.

Now here's something we'd like to try. Deepika Govind's 'Pop Patola' combined colourful ikats with silks and satins. Fun motifs like cars, buses, fruits, flowers, planes and TV sets came to life on blouses, skirts and sari borders.


Strong structured silhouettes are the key feature of HUEMN by Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty. They presented their collection titled 'When the Lines Move' at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012. 

Everyone truly wanted more of designer Krishna Mehta's collection 'Encore'. Intricate craftsmanship on volumes of fabric, her pieces defined opulence.

 Designer Anita Dongre ended the third day of the fashion week with her collection called 'Urban Goddess'. The styles blended traditional with contemporary and were aimed for the urban jet-setter.

 Show-stopper Preeti Desai, Miss Great Britain 2006 and star of the film 'Shor in the City', wore a regal white and gold bridal lehenga teamed with heavy pearl jewellery.
