Mini Biography
Britney Jean Spears was born in McComb (Mississippi) and raised in rural Louisiana (Kentwood) to Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears. As a child, Britney attended dance classes, and she was great at gymnastics, winning many competitions and the like. But, most of all, Britney loved to sing. At age 8, Britney tried out for "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" (1989), but was turned down due to her young age. This directed her to an off-Broadway show, "Ruthless", for a 2-year run as the title character. At age 11, she again tried for "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" (1989) and, this time, made it as a mouseketeer alongside many stars of today (Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chasez of *NSYNC and Ryan Gosling). Her big break, however, came when she was signed as a Jive Recording Artist in the late 90s. With the release of her debut album, "...Baby One More Time" in early 1999, Britney became an international success, selling 13 million copies of "Baby" and 9 million (as of July 2001) of her sophomore album, "Oops!...I Did It Again", released in May of 2000.

Britney Spears discography

American recording artist Britney Spears has released seven studio studio albums, twelve compilation albums, thirty-six singles, two promotional singles and two other appearances. In 1997, Spears signed a recording contract with Jive Records to launch her career. Spears has sold over 100 million albums worldwide and more than 28.6 million digital singles in the United States only, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.[2][3][4][5] Billboard ranked her as the 8th overall Artist of the Decade, and also recognized her as the best-selling female artist of the first decade of the 21st century, as well as the fifth overall. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) also recognized Spears as the eighth top-selling female artist in the United States, with 34 million certified albums. She made her chart debut in November 1998 with "...Baby One More Time", which attained global success and reached the top position of every major countries charts. It was followed by the release of her debut studio album, ...Baby One More Time, which opened at number one on the Canadian Albums Chart and US Billboard 200, being later certified fourteen-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Spears' second studio album, Oops!... I Did It Again, was released on May 16, 2000, and became the fastest-selling album ever by a female act in the US with over 1,319,193 units sold in its opening week. It spawned four singles: "Oops!... I Did It Again", "Lucky", "Stronger" and "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know". In November 2001, Spears' self-titled album spawned worldwide hit "I'm a Slave 4 U", which is notable for being a musical departure from her previous material. After a two year break, Spears' fourth studio album, In the Zone, was released in November 2003. The album featured "Me Against the Music", a collaboration with Madonna that reached the top position of the European Hot 100 Singles, and "Toxic", which earned Spears her first Grammy in the category of Best Dance Recording, and gained her credibility amongst critics. Her first compilation album, Greatest Hits: My Prerogative, was released the following year and sold nearly 6 million copies worldwide.
Following her personal struggles through 2007, Spears' fifth studio album, Blackout, was released in October of the same year. It was positively received by critics, who praised its innovative and modern sound. Unlike all of Spears' previous albums, Blackout was not heavily promoted through magazine interviews, talk-show appearances or televised performances besides a performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards and was not accompanied by a tour either. Even so, it was able to sell over 3 million units worldwide, and spawned hit singles "Gimme More" and "Piece of Me". With the release of her sixth studio album Circus, Spears became the only act in the Nielsen SoundScan era, 1991–present, to have four albums debut with 500,000 or more copies sold in the US. With the releases of "Womanizer" and "Circus", it sold over four million copies worldwide. Spears' third compilation album, The Singles Collection, featured her third US number one single "3". In 2011, she released the song "Hold It Against Me", which made Spears only the second artist in the Billboard Hot 100 chart's 52-year history to debut at number one with two or more songs, just behind Mariah Carey. The track was included on her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, which debuted at number one in the country.

Britney Spears filmography

Britney Spears started her television career in 1991 in The New Mickey Mouse Club. Since the launch of her music career, she has starred in the movie Crossroads, in two documentaries, in a reality television series and appeared as a guest star in television series, numerous television commercials and films.

Television and motion pictures

At age eight, Spears auditioned for the Disney Channel series The New Mickey Mouse Club. She was considered too young to join the series at the time, but returned at age eleven in Lakeland, Florida. She was featured on the show from 1993 to 1994. In 1999, Spears appeared in The Famous Jett Jackson and Sabrina the Teenage Witch as herself; she also performed on both shows. In 2000, she made a cameo in Longshot as a flight attendant and guest starred in The Simpsons in the episode "The Mansion Family", dressed as a Catholic school girl as in the "...Baby One More Time" music video, and she appeared on the television series, Invader Zim (she didn't voice herself in the show, but rather Candi Milo impersonated her in one episode).[citation needed] Her 2001 novel A Mother's Gift was adapted for an ABC Family television movie titled Brave New Girl. Spears was an executive producer on the film. After a cameo in Austin Powers in Goldmember, she starred on Crossroads. The film was rated PG-13 in the United States due to sexual content and brief teen drinking. The film grossed $61,141,030 worldwide and received generally mixed to negative reviews. In December 2002, she released Stages: Three Days in Mexico, a documentary included with the photographic book Stages, about the two shows in Mexico of her Dream Within a Dream Tour.
Her first reality television series, Britney & Kevin: Chaotic, premiered on UPN on May 17, 2005. The shows follows Spears' meeting with her then husband Kevin Federline, their relationship and wedding. Footage is primarily the couple's home videos and interviews conducted months later. In 2006, Spears guest-starred in Will & Grace, on the episode "Buy, Buy Baby" as a closeted lesbian. Two years later, she guest-starred on CBS's television show How I Met Your Mother, playing a receptionist in the episode "Ten Sessions". She received positive reviews for her performance as well as bringing in the series' highest ratings ever. Spears reprised her role in May 2008 in the episode "Everything Must Go", leaving the storyline open for a future return. In November 2008, a documentary entitled Britney: For the Record was filmed by Phil Griffin and premiered on MTV, showing her return to the spotlight and preparation for the release of her sixth studio album Circus. Spears currently plans to renew her film career in 2012.
