Schwarzenegger kept many secrets from wife Maria

Arnold Schwarzenegger says his lifelong penchant for secrecy and ability to put his emotions "on deep freeze" led him to keep many secrets from his wife Maria Shriver, eventually causing the dissolution of their marriage when he was forced to admit he fathered a child with the family's housekeeper years earlier.
Throughout their strained 25-year marriage, Schwarzenegger says he did not want to tell Shriver about crucial life decisions such as major heart surgery and running for California governor because he feared she would overreact and tell her well-connected family and friends.
In his new autobiography, "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story," and in an interview airing Sunday on "60 Minutes," the former California governor acknowledges that his inability to be honest with people has hurt those closest to him.
"That's the way I handle things. And it always has worked. But, I mean it does not _ it's not the best thing for people around me because I sometimes _ some information I just keep to myself," Schwarzenegger tells reporter Lesley Stahl on "60 Minutes."
The former Mr. Universe traces his detachment to his bodybuilding days, where he says emotions make athletes lose.
"So I became an expert in living in denial," says the Hollywood action star and former governor.
Schwarzenegger praises Shriver throughout the book as a partner and friend who was essential to his success, but also admits to keeping her in the dark about many career decisions. Shriver filed for divorce in July.
Although he had been toying with the idea of running for governor for more than a year, Schwarzenegger waited until just days before the filing deadline for the 2003 recall to discuss it with Shriver, writing in the book that he "didn't want endless conversation about it at home."
Shriver opposed the idea, but was persuaded to soften her stance by her mother, Eunice Shriver, who told her to support her husband's ambitions, or he might resent her for the rest of his life. Despite that struggle, he also didn't inform her when he decided to seek a second term, writing that she had to read about it in the newspaper.
"Total Recall" will officially be published Monday. The Associated Press purchased an early copy.
But Schwarzenegger's biggest secret, the child he had with the family's housekeeper, became tabloid news last year after he left office. Shriver confronted him during a January 2011 counseling session and he finally acknowledged the boy, Joseph, was his. Schwarzenegger says he kept the secret from his wife for years because he was worried "it would get out."
He tells Stahl he never even had a conversation with the housekeeper, Mildred Baena, about the son. Instead, after he began noticing the boy's strong resemblance to him, around age 8, he just began giving Baena extra money.
"I kind of put it away and just said to myself, `OK, I'm going to put this away. I'm going to fulfill my responsibilities,'" he tells Stahl.
He declined to say whether he has a relationship with the child, who is now about 15, and he said he didn't want to go into any more details about his relationship with Baena because he's already caused Shriver and their four children enough pain.
"I don't want to reawaken and kind of talk about it because it's not going to help them. And I just want to protect them as much as I can," he says.
There were other deceptions, too, including a "hot affair" with actress Brigitte Nielsen while filming the 1985 film "Red Sonja," when he and Shriver were living together. He admits to other affairs, but tells Stahl they are "something that's obviously between Maria and me."
Schwarzenegger says in the interview that his marriage and his family were the most important things in his life, but he caused them tremendous pain.
"So the thing that really meant the most to me kind of fell apart because of my doing," he says in the "60 Minutes" interview. "That is something that I will always look back and say, `How could you have done that?'"

Anne Hathaway marries Adam Shulman

Actress Anne Hathaway has wed long-time boyfriend and The Dukes of Hazzard actor Adam Shulman.

The ‘Les Miserables’ actress tied the knot with Shulman, who she became engaged to in November 2011, at a small ceremony in Big Sur, California, yesterday.

Around 100 guests attended the nuptials, which began on Friday night with a rehearsal dinner at the Ventana Inn and Spa ahead of the wedding at a nearby private estate.
Hathaway wore a gown designed by Valentino, and the décor at the celebration was inspired by nature, a source told People.com.
Speaking previously, Hathaway said she was looking forward to being single until she met Shulman and “fell in love like a fool”.
She said: “I am very much in love with him, only Adam totally ruined my plan. I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time, and then I fell in love like a fool!”
Earlier this year hathaway said she wanted to hold off having her wedding until 2013 as she had too much work to do.
She said: “"We're getting married, probably sometime next year-ish. Not this year, its too big with two films coming out.
"I haven't started planning yet. I was filming 'Les Mis' when we decided to do it, and there was no way I could think about anything wedding-related with my head in the space it was in then. I've been so busy since then, I've not even decided what sort of ceremony I want."

'666 Park Avenue' series premiere react: Devilish enough for you?

Most New Yorkers would sell their souls for a great apartment — especially if there’s always a parking place right in front of the building when you need it. But there’s more to the new supernatural ABC drama 666 Park Avenue. A quick recap: In the premiere, we learned that Jane Van Veen (Rachael Taylor) and Henry Martin (Dave Annable) are an unwed couple who came to New York City because Henry got a job working in the mayor’s city planning office and Jane was supposed to start at an architectural firm but the position fell through. Looking for a new apartment, they stumbled onto a job listing for resident manager of The Drake (actual address, 999 Park Avenue), a beautiful building built in 1923. Because of Jane’s degrees in architecture and historical preservation (and their ambition), they are hired by the building’s mysterious owner, Gavin Doran (Terry O’Quinn). Gavin’s married to Olivia (Vanessa Williams), who seems to be fully aware that her husband brokers deals for people’s souls but also appears to have a bit of her own intact. (She looked genuinely sad when she told Jane she had a daughter who died in a car crash a long time ago).
The building’s other residents did include the former resident manager, a violinist whose 10-year contract making him the best in the biz just expired (he tried to run and the building sucked him back in), and a man who agreed to kill a judge in return for the resurrection of his recently deceased wife. To keep her though, the man would have to kill again (this time a businessman who wouldn’t sell property to Gavin), but he couldn’t. He lost his wife a second time, and the man was sucked into the wall of the building. Now, we’re left with Brian (Robert Buckley), a young playwright with writer’s block, and his fashion photographer wife, Louise (Mercedes Masöhn). Louise had to hire a new assistant after hers quit before a Vogue cover shoot, and she happened to pick Alexis (Helena Mattsson), a neighbor who doesn’t believe in curtains and likes to disrobe in front of her window for Brian to watch. Awkward! Last we saw Louise, she was being crushed by the building’s elevator doors, which decided to close on her. She’s recovering in the hospital. (Has Alexis struck a deal with Gavin?) And then there’s Nona (Samantha Logan), a young klepto who may be stealing objects from her neighbors because she’s a psychic who can see their futures while holding them. She saw Jane tied to a chair and gagged while wearing the red dress Olivia bought her for a black-tie symphony event.
We know Gavin runs this show and preys on the ambitious, but I assume he’s actually the middle man. Maybe he and Olivia owe someone (the devil?) a debt going back to their daughter’s death. Perhaps to keep her out of hell, they have to send other souls there. While walking through and jotting down all that’s wrong in the building, Jane found herself in the spooky basement and discovered a mosaic on the floor of a dragon (which is what Drake means). Library research showed it was there in the 1920s, when the Order of the Dragon, a fraternal brotherhood, met there. There was a door back then, now it’s been sealed off. Was that the door to hell? Is that why people are now sucked through the walls instead?
Jane senses something is off: Gavin made her uncomfortable at the symphony, and the memory ruined what could have been a totally hot hallway sex scene when she and Henry got home that night. She was drunk, but also dazed. “Henry, are we gonna be okay here?” she asked. That night, she followed the ghost woman into the basement and through a door, and then watched her jump to her death again after warning Jane, “You shouldn’t have come here. They’re never gonna let you go.” Jane thought it was just a dream, but we saw that her feet were dirty. Still, they signed a one-year contract for the resident manager job and a lease for the apartment without even reading them. That make anyone else nervous? Gavin had distracted them by asking Jane to look over the new plans for the Drake’s remodel to see if she could find other ways to preserve more of the original design. Blind ambition.
What’s your theory about Gavin and Olivia? And do you find the show sexy and scary enough? The candlelit couple’s bath for Jane and Henry was nice. Having to kiss your costar’s toe in the pilot — you deserve that pickup to series. People getting sucked into the building isn’t as chilling as the dead woman appearing behind Jane as Jane was on that ladder fixing the light in the basement. More of that would be good. I think it’s more eerie when we see the craziness and Jane and Henry don’t. Jane having weird “dreams” and not realizing how dirty her feet are in the shower will grow tedious.
Also, I’m gonna need more Vanessa Williams.
Your turn.
